Learn a little more about mallow tops: Northern mallow, also known by the scientific name Malva neglecta, is an herbaceous plant in the Malvaceae family. Northern mallow is native to Eurasia, but has spread to many parts of the world. It is commonly found in Europe, Asia, North Africa and North America. It often grows in ruderal areas, roadsides, waste ground and cultivated fields. Its leaves and flowers have been used for their medicinal properties since Antiquity. Northern Mallow leaves are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. They are traditionally used to soothe throat irritations, relieve coughs, reduce inflammation and favor wound healing. Physically, northern mallow is an annual or biennial herbaceous plant that can reach up to 60 cm in height. Its leaves are rounded to lobed and have a downy texture. The flowers are small, pale pink to lavender, and appear along the stem.
