Learn a little more about bilberry leaves:Blueberry leaves, also known as “cornflower leaves” or “folium Myrtilli”, are the leaves of the bilberry shrub (Vaccinium myrtillus). Bilberries are native to temperate and cold regions of the northern hemisphere, notably Europe, North America and Asia. They grow mainly in coniferous forests and moors, preferring acidic, well-drained soils. Bilberry leaves have been used in traditional medicine for centuries, notably by North American indigenous peoples and European herbalists. Bilberry leaves are rich in bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins and phenolic acids, which confer various health benefits. They are often used for their astringent, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and diuretic properties. Bilberry leaves are traditionally used to support urinary health, improve blood circulation, relieve inflammation and protect eye health. Bilberry leaves are generally oval, toothed at the edges and dark green in color. They are arranged alternately along the stems of the bilberry shrub. Bilberry leaves are generally harvested in spring and summer, when the shrub is in full growth. They can be dried for later use in infusions or medicinal preparations.
