Learn a little more about red vine leaves:Red vine, or Vitis vinifera, is native to Eurasia, but is now cultivated in many parts of the world. It is often found in temperate zones, where it is prized for both its fruit (grapes) and its leaves. Red vine leaves have been used for centuries in traditional medicine, mainly in Mediterranean regions. They were known to the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans for their medicinal properties. Red vine leaves are rich in polyphenolic compounds, notably flavonoids and tannins, which confer various health benefits. They are often used for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and vasoprotective properties. They are reputed to promote blood circulation, support cardiovascular health, relieve heavy legs and varicose veins, as well as for their diuretic and anti-diarrheal effects. Red vine leaves are large, lobed and toothed at the edges. They are generally dark green in color, but can sometimes show shades of red or bronze, especially in autumn. Red vine leaves are generally harvested in spring or summer, when the shrub is in full growth. They are often used fresh, but can also be dried for later use in infusions or medicinal preparations.
