Learn a little more about yarrow: Yarrow, also known by the scientific name Achillea millefolium, is a perennial herbaceous plant in the Asteraceae (or Compositae) family. Yarrow is native to temperate regions of the northern hemisphere, but has spread to many parts of the world. It is commonly found in Europe, Asia, North America and parts of Africa. Yarrow takes its name from the famous Greek warrior Achilles, who, according to legend, used the plant to treat his soldiers’ wounds during the Trojan War. Since ancient times, it has been used in various medicinal traditions around the world. Yarrow has several medicinal properties. It is often used for its haemostatic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and healing effects. It can be used to treat minor wounds, cuts, bruises and light bleeding. In herbal medicine, it is also used to relieve digestive disorders, headaches, painful periods and cold symptoms. Flowers are generally small, white or pink, and clustered in umbel-shaped inflorescences. As for taste, the leaves of this plant have a bitter flavor.
