Learn a little more about blackcurrant leaves: Blackcurrant leaves come from the blackcurrant plant, also known by the scientific name Ribes nigrum. Blackcurrant is native to Europe and northern Asia, but is also cultivated in other parts of the world. It generally grows in cool, temperate climates. Blackcurrants have been used for centuries in traditional European medicine for their medicinal properties. The leaves, as well as the berries, are used for medicinal purposes. Blackcurrant leaves are rich in flavonoids, vitamins C and B, and minerals such as potassium, calcium and magnesium. They are known for their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and diuretic properties. Blackcurrant leaves are traditionally used to treat conditions such as rheumatism, joint inflammation, blood circulation problems and respiratory tract infections. They are generally harvested when the plant is in full growth, before flowering.
