Learn a little more about hawthorn:Hawthorn, also known by its scientific name Crataegus, is a shrub or small tree belonging to the Rosaceae family. Hawthorn is native to temperate regions of the northern hemisphere, notably Europe, Asia and North America. It is also widely cultivated in other parts of the world for its ornamental and medicinal properties. The parts of hawthorn used are the flowers, leaves and berries. It is traditionally used to support cardiovascular health, in particular to regulate blood pressure and strengthen heart muscle. It is also used to relieve anxiety, promote sleep and relieve digestive disorders. In modern phytotherapy, hawthorn is often recommended as a dietary supplement to support heart function. Legend has it that the Druids, the priests and sages of Celtic society, often used hawthorn branches in their ritual practices and sacred ceremonies. They believed hawthorn to be auspicious, with the power to ward off evil spirits and protect against evil forces. The leaves are generally lobed and have a slightly leathery texture. Hawthorn is a shrub or small tree that can reach heights of 5 to 8 meters. Its branches are often thorny. Leaves are generally alternate, toothed or lobed, and deciduous in most species.
